We are delighted to announce we have introduced a new Life Skills Program, specifically designed for our year 11 and 12 students. This program is carefully tailored to meet their unique needs, providing them with essential skills to thrive and lead independent lives beyond school.

Empowering our Students for Independence and Success

Starting in Term 3, 2023, the program has a heavy focus on practical tasks such as running and maintaining a kitchen, grocery shopping, purchasing ingredients, reading recipes, and basic cooking skills.

The Importance of Life Skills Education

For students with disabilities, learning life skills plays a crucial role in their ability live independent lives. These skills help them navigate everyday tasks and engage in meaningful activities. We understand the significance of life skills education and have developed a comprehensive curriculum that fosters independence, confidence, and self-sufficiency.

Knowing Where Food Comes From

In addition to kitchen skills, our Life Skills Program provides a unique opportunity for our students to connect with nature and the growing cycles of food. Through our biodynamic farm environment, they have the chance to actively participate in planting and harvesting ingredients that they can later use in their cooking. This hands-on experience teaches them about the cycles of nature, the importance of sustainable agriculture, and the value of knowing where their food comes from.

A Path to a Fulfilling Future

Our Life Skills Program goes beyond teaching practical tasks; it also emphasises the development of essential life skills that promote social interaction, problem-solving, and decision-making. Through collaborative cooking activities, students learn teamwork, effective communication, and adaptability. They also develop skills in following instructions, time management, and organisation, which are vital for success in various aspects of life.

A Sense of Purpose

By participating in this program, our students gain confidence, a sense of purpose, and increased self-esteem. They become better equipped to face the challenges and opportunities that await them after school, ensuring a smoother transition into adulthood. The program truly prepares our students for a fulfilling future of independence and personal growth.
